Engine Control Unit Volkswagen Golf Bosch EDC17C64 04L907309C 0281018511

Unlike most of our Golf ECUs, this module has no unlocked version – we sell it locked or with immobiliser support disabled. It is a Bosch EDC17C64, an ECU from the Electronic Diesel Control family, with VW number 04L907309C. It is responsible for common rail injection and boost on the diesel engine.

Numbers to compare

  • 04L907309C – Volkswagen part number, version C
  • 0281018511 – Bosch number, written as 0 281 018 511
  • EDC17C64 – Bosch ECU type

The number 04L907309 comes with various letters that denote the software or hardware version. Order this module if yours ends in C.

When the ECU may be faulty

  • the car will not start although the starter and fuel supply are fine,
  • the diagnostic tool cannot read the EDC17C64 ECU,
  • the engine goes into limp mode with no other fault codes,
  • the fault appeared after a voltage spike.

Before replacing the module, check the power supply, earths and the condition of the plug.

Locked or IMMO OFF

The IMMO OFF version is an ECU we prepare before dispatch with immobiliser support disabled in the software. Before you buy, we confirm whether this solution suits your vehicle.

The locked version holds the data and immobiliser from the previous vehicle – it is chosen by workshops that will program and adapt the module themselves. We do not offer an unlocked version of this ECU. More information: ECU options.

  • How to Check the Operation of a Transmission Control Module - Symptoms

A faulty transmission control module (TCM) most often causes limp mode with the gearbox stuck in one gear, harsh jolts when you select D or R, erratic gear changes, flashing PRND letters and a gearbox or engine warning light. However, the same symptoms are often caused by a low gearbox oil level, a weak battery, a poor earth or a faulty sensor. To test a transmission control module, start by checking the battery and reading the fault codes with a diagnostic tool that can talk to the gearbox control unit, then check the power supply, the connector, the oil and the live data. Below we explain the symptoms, the diagnostic steps and what the most common fault codes mean.
