SsangYong ABS pump
Safety off-road and on the road. Proven braking systems for SsangYong vehicles. SsangYong cars such as Rexton, Kyron or Korando are solid designs built for hard work and driving in difficult conditions. In the case of these massive SUVs and pickups, an efficient braking system is essential. The heart of this system is the ABS unit (pump with controller), which in SsangYong vehicles manages not only braking, but often also the hill descent control (HDC) system and trailer or high-body stability control (ESP).
In this category you will find original, used ABS pumps for SsangYong vehicles. We offer dismantled components that are a safe and readily available alternative to very expensive and hard-to-find new parts.
ABS system specifics in SsangYong – Mando and Bosch
Unlike many European cars, SsangYong often uses components from the Korean company Mando or older Bosch-licensed systems. These are durable, but specific systems.
The main causes of failure in these vehicles are:
Off-road driving: Mud, water and dust entering the engine bay can cause corrosion of the electrical contacts in the pump connector.
Thermal loads: In large diesels (e.g. 2.7 XDi), vibrations and high under-hood temperatures lead to damage of solder joints inside the electronic controller.
Pressure sensor faults: Inside the hydraulic block, the brake pressure sensor often fails (G201/C1288 error), which is difficult to repair without replacing the entire pump.
Symptoms of a faulty ABS pump in SsangYong
If you own a Rexton, Actyon or Kyron, pay attention to these signals:
Red HDC warning light: In SsangYong vehicles, an ABS system fault often first appears as the hill descent control (HDC) warning light coming on.
Hard pedal and no ABS: During braking on slippery surfaces, the wheels lock up and the pedal does not pulsate.
Dashboard “Christmas tree”: ABS, ESP and parking brake lights illuminated at the same time, often combined with the automatic transmission going into limp mode (locked in 3rd gear).
No speedometer and no 4x4: In some models, a faulty ABS controller stops sending the speed signal, which can prevent engaging low range or 4H/4L mode.
Why buy an original used unit instead of repairing?
Availability of new parts for SsangYong can be limited, and dealer prices can be surprising (often exceeding 4000–5000 PLN).
Regeneration problem: Mando controllers are difficult to regenerate due to their specific design and limited availability of electronic components. “Home-made” repairs often end with another failure at the least expected moment (e.g. off-road).
Original reliability: The pumps we offer are factory parts that have never been disassembled. This guarantees housing tightness and resistance to the harsh conditions in which these vehicles are used.
Immediate shipping: You do not have to wait weeks for parts to be imported from Korea. You can have a used original in 24–48h.
How to choose an ABS pump for SsangYong?
Even though many models look similar (e.g. Kyron before and after facelift), pumps may differ depending on the drive type (permanent 4x4 vs. selectable) and the transmission.
Always check:
SsangYong OE number: Usually starts with a string of digits, e.g. 48910-..., 48920-...
Manufacturer number (Mando/Bosch): Found on the label on the pump motor or on the plastic controller.
We have pumps for the following models:
SsangYong Rexton (I, II, W)
SsangYong Kyron / Actyon
SsangYong Korando
SsangYong Tivoli / XLV
SsangYong Musso / Rodius

FAQ – Frequently asked questions: ABS pump in SsangYong
1. Does an illuminated HDC (hill descent) warning light always mean an ABS pump failure?
In SsangYong cars (especially Rexton, Kyron) this is a very common symptom. The HDC system uses the ABS pump to brake the wheels during descent. If the pump controller detects an internal fault (e.g. pressure sensor or valve error), it deactivates HDC and turns on the red warning light. This is usually associated with the need to replace the ABS unit.
2. Do I need to program the ABS pump after replacement in SsangYong?
It depends on the vehicle generation.
Older models (Musso, early Rexton, Korando II): Usually not. The pump works on a Plug & Play basis if the numbers match.
Newer models (Rexton W, Tivoli, Korando C): Yes. The ABS controller is linked to the CAN network and requires steering angle sensor calibration and variant coding (Variant Coding) using a dedicated service computer.
3. Can I install a pump from a UK (RHD) vehicle into my SsangYong?
Yes, provided the part numbers match. In SsangYong vehicles, the hydraulic layout (brake line outlets) is usually symmetrical or identical for both versions. If the part number (e.g. Mando) is the same, the controller will work correctly.
4. Why can’t I engage 4x4 (low range) after an ABS failure?
In models with selectable drive (Part-Time 4WD), the drivetrain controller (TCCU) needs wheel speed information to safely engage or disengage drive modes. This information is taken from the ABS pump. If the pump is faulty (“dead”), the drivetrain controller blocks the ability to switch 2H/4H/4L modes for safety reasons.
5. Are Mando pumps worse than Bosch?
No. Mando is a major Korean supplier (also supplying Hyundai/Kia). These are solid designs; however, their specific construction means there are fewer workshops able to professionally regenerate them compared to common Bosch units. That is why buying a used original is a safer option.
6. Where can I find the ABS pump in a Rexton or Kyron?
Most often it is located on the left side of the engine bay (driver’s side), close to the bulkhead and brake booster. In some engine versions, access may be obstructed by intercooler pipes or the air filter.
7. What does error C1061 or C1063 mean in SsangYong?
These are errors related to pump power supply or the pump motor. Often the cause is not the pump itself but a corroded wiring harness near the frame or blown fuses. Before buying a pump, it is worth thoroughly checking the electrical installation, which in older SsangYong vehicles can be prone to oxidation.
8. Is driving with a faulty ABS in SsangYong safe?
We strongly advise against it. These are heavy vehicles (often over 2 tons) with a high center of gravity. Wheel lock-up during braking on wet roads in such a heavy vehicle leads to immediate loss of control and sliding “like on a sled”. Without working ESP, the risk of rollover during a sudden maneuver is significantly higher.
9. How can I read the pump number if the label is illegible?
In SsangYong vehicles, labels often fade or peel off due to heat. In this case, the most reliable method is to connect a diagnostic computer and read the part number in the "ECU Information" section. You can also use the VIN and call a dealer or use online parts catalogs to determine the OE number.
10. Does changing brake fluid affect the pump’s lifespan?
A lot. In off-road vehicles, brake fluid absorbs moisture faster (hygroscopic). Old, water-contaminated fluid causes corrosion of valves inside the ABS pump’s aluminum block, leading to seizure. When replacing the pump with a “new” used one, you must fill the system with fresh DOT4 fluid.
11. Does an ABS pump from Rexton fit Kyron?
Even though these vehicles share a platform and engines, pumps may have different software (different vehicle mass and wheelbase characteristics). Physically they may fit, but the ESP system may work incorrectly. We recommend installing only a pump with the same manufacturer number.
12. How much does a new pump cost at a SsangYong service center?
Prices vary greatly depending on exchange rates and availability in Korea, but often range between 3500–6000 PLN. Waiting time for importing the part can be from 2 up to 6 weeks. With us, you get a working part almost immediately for a fraction of that price.
