The automatic transmission control unit (often designated as TCU or TCM) is a crucial electronic component responsible for smooth and trouble-free gear shifting. Its failure, most often caused by overheating, short circuits, or water damage, results in jerking, an inability to shift gears, or the vehicle entering limp mode. Purchasing a new module at an authorized dealership is a massive expense, which is why replacing it with a fully functional, used original is the most reasonable solution.

ABS pump 8K0614517GB – how do you check it is the right part?
Compare the number stamped into the block of your hydraulic unit with 8K0 614 517 GB, and the module number with 8K0 907 379 CE. This used, working Bosch unit comes from Audi and Volkswagen cars.
ABS/ESP unit 8K0614517GB with Bosch module 8K0907379CE
In normal driving the unit simply stands by – fluid flows through the open inlet valves to the callipers. Only when the control module detects that a wheel is about to stop turning does it switch the valves and cut off the pressure in that circuit. The pump motor then restores the pressure so that braking can continue without the wheels locking.
VAG and Bosch numbers at a glance
- 8K0614517GB – VAG number of the ABS pump (hydraulic unit), embossed in the block: 8K0 614 517 GB
- 0265239099 – Bosch number of the hydraulic block (pump), in the metal: 0 265 239 099
- 8K0907379CE – VAG number of the ABS/ESP control module, on the module sticker: 8K0 907 379 CE
- 0265951996 – Bosch control module number: 0 265 951 996
There is no label on the block – both pump numbers are stamped directly into the aluminium. You will find the module numbers on the sticker on its housing, next to the wording ‘ESP’. Check 8K0614517GB character by character, because the shop has a further 35 versions of this pump with a different suffix.
How a faulty ABS unit makes itself known
The driver typically notices:
- ABS and ESP/ASR systems switched off,
- a valve fault stored in the module,
- a warning light that comes on right after the engine is started.
Don't order the part blind: read the fault codes and check the wheel sensors, fuses, wiring, connector and battery. After fitting, bleed the brakes, code the module if the car requires it, and usually calibrate the steering angle sensor.
Fitting and matching – top questions
Which cars does this pump fit?
---
Audi and Volkswagen, provided your hydraulic unit has the number 8K0 614 517 GB and the module 8K0 907 379 CE. We do not give the model.
What condition is the unit in?
Used, genuine and working. The warranty period is listed in the product features table.
Does the control module need coding?
On many VW Group cars, yes – after fitting it is coded with a diagnostic tool to suit the car's equipment.
Does the brake system need bleeding?
Yes, once the lines have been disconnected, bleeding is necessary. It is best done in a workshop using a scan tool.
