The automatic transmission control unit (often designated as TCU or TCM) is a crucial electronic component responsible for smooth and trouble-free gear shifting. Its failure, most often caused by overheating, short circuits, or water damage, results in jerking, an inability to shift gears, or the vehicle entering limp mode. Purchasing a new module at an authorized dealership is a massive expense, which is why replacing it with a fully functional, used original is the most reasonable solution.

Important: Depending on the ECU type and vehicle model, not all of the options listed below may be available.

1. Locked
This option is intended for professional workshops with the required specialist equipment and technical knowledge.
The ECU has been removed from a vehicle intended for recycling and still contains the immobilizer data and other information from the previous vehicle. Before it can be used in another car, it must be unlocked and then programmed using specialist automotive diagnostic equipment.
2. Unlocked
Several preparation methods may be available. The possible options depend on the ECU type, vehicle model and immobilizer system. Please contact us before purchasing, as some preparation methods are not available for every ECU.
Our electronics specialists can prepare the ECU in one of the following ways:
a) ECU with PIN code (Car Pass)
The PIN code is supplied, but programming with a suitable diagnostic tool is still required. After installing the ECU, it must be reset using the supplied PIN code and then programmed to the vehicle’s immobilizer system.
b) VIRGIN ECU
The data from the previous vehicle is removed and the ECU is restored to a clean, factory-like state. After installation, it must be programmed to the vehicle using a compatible specialist diagnostic tool. Unless another preparation method is specified in the product description, this is the standard unlocking option for most of our ECUs.
c) Plug & Play – IMMO OFF
The immobilizer function is disabled in the ECU. After installation, the engine can start without additional immobilizer programming. Please note that the vehicle will no longer have an active immobilizer function, and an immobilizer warning light or fault code may remain, depending on the vehicle model.
d) Plug & Play – Automatic Programming
After installation, the ECU automatically learns and saves the required vehicle data. No additional programming is normally required.
e) Plug & Play – 1:1 Clone
The data from your original ECU is copied to another fully functional ECU. The cloned unit is then ready for installation without additional programming.
You must send us your original ECU so that we can transfer its data to the replacement unit.
The original ECU must have working communication with the vehicle, a diagnostic tool or our programming equipment. If the required data cannot be read, a complete 1:1 clone may not be possible.
3. Complete Plug & Play Set
A complete matched set containing the ECU, immobilizer components and all other parts required to start the vehicle without additional programming. All components supplied in the set must be installed in the vehicle.
Important:
Dispatch time depends on the selected option. If an unlocked or specially prepared version is ordered, the preparation service usually requires an additional 1–2 business days.

Does the 045906013R ECU fit my Skoda 1.4 TDI?
It fits if the label on your ECU shows VW number 045906013R or Bosch number 0 281 015 050 – the car model alone is not enough to find the right part. The unit is used, fully working and available locked or unlocked.
Engine Control Unit Skoda 1.4 TDI Bosch 045906013R 0281015050
This ECU comes from a Skoda with the 1.4 TDI diesel engine and runs the injection system: based on sensor signals, it sets the fuel quantity and injection timing. It was made by Bosch – the number 0281015050 from the 0 281 series is typical of diesel engine ECUs. In the VW/Skoda catalogue, the unit has the number 045906013R.
Numbers to compare
- 045906013R – VW/Skoda part number
- 0281015050 – Bosch number, shown on the label as 0 281 015 050
The Skoda model is not specified here, so only the numbers on the sticker decide compatibility. Note the final letter R – it denotes the software or hardware version, so a 045906013 number with a different letter is a different variant.
Symptoms of a faulty engine control unit
- the engine will not fire, even though the starter cranks and fuel is getting through,
- no communication with the diagnostic tester,
- limp mode and a marked loss of power not caused by the sensors,
- internal ECU faults stored in the fault memory.
Before you replace the ECU, check the fuses, earths and wiring loom – a damaged connector causes similar symptoms.
Locked or unlocked version?
There are two variants to choose from. The locked unit holds the data and immobiliser of the car it came from – this is the option for garages that will unlock, program and adapt the unit themselves. We prepare the unlocked unit before dispatch, usually within 1–2 working days.
The preparation method depends on the part number, software and immobiliser, so PIN / CAR PASS, Virgin, IMMO OFF, auto-programming or clone are not always an option. Before buying, ask what is possible for 045906013R. Details: engine control unit variants.
Questions and answers
Will the 045906013R ECU start the engine straight after fitting?
---
Not in the locked version – it needs to be programmed and matched to the immobiliser. With the unlocked version, it depends on the preparation method, which we agree before purchase.
How do I know whether the unit fits my Skoda?
Compare the numbers on your ECU's label with 045906013R and 0281015050. Matching numbers matter more than the car model itself.
What condition is this ECU in?
It is a used part, fully working and in good condition. You will find the warranty period in the product specifications table.
