The automatic transmission control unit (often designated as TCU or TCM) is a crucial electronic component responsible for smooth and trouble-free gear shifting. Its failure, most often caused by overheating, short circuits, or water damage, results in jerking, an inability to shift gears, or the vehicle entering limp mode. Purchasing a new module at an authorized dealership is a massive expense, which is why replacing it with a fully functional, used original is the most reasonable solution.

Important: Depending on the ECU type and vehicle model, not all of the options listed below may be available.

1. Locked
This option is intended for professional workshops with the required specialist equipment and technical knowledge.
The ECU has been removed from a vehicle intended for recycling and still contains the immobilizer data and other information from the previous vehicle. Before it can be used in another car, it must be unlocked and then programmed using specialist automotive diagnostic equipment.
2. Unlocked
Several preparation methods may be available. The possible options depend on the ECU type, vehicle model and immobilizer system. Please contact us before purchasing, as some preparation methods are not available for every ECU.
Our electronics specialists can prepare the ECU in one of the following ways:
a) ECU with PIN code (Car Pass)
The PIN code is supplied, but programming with a suitable diagnostic tool is still required. After installing the ECU, it must be reset using the supplied PIN code and then programmed to the vehicle’s immobilizer system.
b) VIRGIN ECU
The data from the previous vehicle is removed and the ECU is restored to a clean, factory-like state. After installation, it must be programmed to the vehicle using a compatible specialist diagnostic tool. Unless another preparation method is specified in the product description, this is the standard unlocking option for most of our ECUs.
c) Plug & Play – IMMO OFF
The immobilizer function is disabled in the ECU. After installation, the engine can start without additional immobilizer programming. Please note that the vehicle will no longer have an active immobilizer function, and an immobilizer warning light or fault code may remain, depending on the vehicle model.
d) Plug & Play – Automatic Programming
After installation, the ECU automatically learns and saves the required vehicle data. No additional programming is normally required.
e) Plug & Play – 1:1 Clone
The data from your original ECU is copied to another fully functional ECU. The cloned unit is then ready for installation without additional programming.
You must send us your original ECU so that we can transfer its data to the replacement unit.
The original ECU must have working communication with the vehicle, a diagnostic tool or our programming equipment. If the required data cannot be read, a complete 1:1 clone may not be possible.
3. Complete Plug & Play Set
A complete matched set containing the ECU, immobilizer components and all other parts required to start the vehicle without additional programming. All components supplied in the set must be installed in the vehicle.
Important:
Dispatch time depends on the selected option. If an unlocked or specially prepared version is ordered, the preparation service usually requires an additional 1–2 business days.

Where can I find the number 03C906016AK on the ECU?
VW number 03C906016AK is on the ECU sticker, next to Bosch number 0 261 S05 948 and the second number 03C906016C. This used, fully working Bosch MED17.5.5 unit comes from a 2010 Octavia 1.4 TSI.
Engine Control Unit Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSI Bosch MED17.5.5 03C906016AK 0261S05948 03C906016C
The unit comes from a Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSI built in 2010. It is a Bosch MED17.5.5 ECU, a unit from the Motronic family for petrol direct-injection engines. It controls injection, ignition, the throttle body and boost. In the VW catalogue, it has the number 03C906016AK. Condition: used, fully working, good.
Markings worth comparing
- 03C906016AK – main VW/Skoda number
- 03C906016C – second VW number on the unit
- 0261S05948 – Bosch number; shown on the label as 0 261 S05 948
- MED17.5.5 – Bosch ECU type
The suffix "AK" indicates the software or hardware version. That is why the unit that fits your Octavia is one with the same number, not just any 03C906016 ECU.
Signs that the ECU may be faulty
- the engine misfires and loses power under acceleration,
- the car will not start, even though the fuel and ignition systems are working,
- communication faults with the engine module logged in other control units,
- the engine warning light comes on every time the engine is started.
Start by inspecting the connectors and wiring at the ECU and checking the battery – low voltage can produce similar faults.
Locked or unlocked – the differences
Locked: a unit with the data and immobiliser of the previous car, for garages that carry out unlocking, programming and adaptation themselves.
Unlocked: we prepare it before dispatch, usually within 1–2 working days. Whether a PIN / CAR PASS code, a Virgin unit, IMMO OFF, auto-programming or clone can be used depends on the part number, software and immobiliser – please ask before you buy. Description of the variants: engine control unit variants.
Questions and answers
Are 03C906016C and 03C906016AK the same part?
---
Yes, both numbers are on the same unit.
Will an ECU from an Octavia 1.4 TSI of a different year fit too?
You cannot assume so. What counts is the number 03C906016AK on the label, not the car's year of manufacture.
What condition is the ECU in?
Used, fully working, in good condition. You will find the warranty period in the product specifications table.
What should I send when ordering the unlocked version?
A photo of the label on your ECU – we will check the possible methods.
