The automatic transmission control unit (often designated as TCU or TCM) is a crucial electronic component responsible for smooth and trouble-free gear shifting. Its failure, most often caused by overheating, short circuits, or water damage, results in jerking, an inability to shift gears, or the vehicle entering limp mode. Purchasing a new module at an authorized dealership is a massive expense, which is why replacing it with a fully functional, used original is the most reasonable solution.

Important: Depending on the ECU type and vehicle model, not all of the options listed below may be available.

1. Locked
This option is intended for professional workshops with the required specialist equipment and technical knowledge.
The ECU has been removed from a vehicle intended for recycling and still contains the immobilizer data and other information from the previous vehicle. Before it can be used in another car, it must be unlocked and then programmed using specialist automotive diagnostic equipment.
2. Unlocked
Several preparation methods may be available. The possible options depend on the ECU type, vehicle model and immobilizer system. Please contact us before purchasing, as some preparation methods are not available for every ECU.
Our electronics specialists can prepare the ECU in one of the following ways:
a) ECU with PIN code (Car Pass)
The PIN code is supplied, but programming with a suitable diagnostic tool is still required. After installing the ECU, it must be reset using the supplied PIN code and then programmed to the vehicle’s immobilizer system.
b) VIRGIN ECU
The data from the previous vehicle is removed and the ECU is restored to a clean, factory-like state. After installation, it must be programmed to the vehicle using a compatible specialist diagnostic tool. Unless another preparation method is specified in the product description, this is the standard unlocking option for most of our ECUs.
c) Plug & Play – IMMO OFF
The immobilizer function is disabled in the ECU. After installation, the engine can start without additional immobilizer programming. Please note that the vehicle will no longer have an active immobilizer function, and an immobilizer warning light or fault code may remain, depending on the vehicle model.
d) Plug & Play – Automatic Programming
After installation, the ECU automatically learns and saves the required vehicle data. No additional programming is normally required.
e) Plug & Play – 1:1 Clone
The data from your original ECU is copied to another fully functional ECU. The cloned unit is then ready for installation without additional programming.
You must send us your original ECU so that we can transfer its data to the replacement unit.
The original ECU must have working communication with the vehicle, a diagnostic tool or our programming equipment. If the required data cannot be read, a complete 1:1 clone may not be possible.
3. Complete Plug & Play Set
A complete matched set containing the ECU, immobilizer components and all other parts required to start the vehicle without additional programming. All components supplied in the set must be installed in the vehicle.
Important:
Dispatch time depends on the selected option. If an unlocked or specially prepared version is ordered, the preparation service usually requires an additional 1–2 business days.

What is the difference between 03L906022HE and 03L906022GA?
This ECU carries two VW numbers. 03L906022HE is the main number used to match the unit, and 03L906022GA is a second number from the same label. The Bosch 0281015235 ECU comes from a Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI.
Engine Control Unit Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI Bosch 03L906022HE 0281015235 03L906022GA
The engine control unit numbered 03L906022HE works in the Skoda Octavia with the 2.0 TDI diesel engine. It collects data from the sensors and uses it to control fuel injection, turbo boost and starting. The unit was made by Bosch, which gave it the number 0 281 015 235.
Numbers to compare
- 03L906022HE – main VW/Skoda part number,
- 03L906022GA – second VW number from the same label,
- 0281015235 – Bosch number, shown on the label as 0 281 015 235.
When choosing a replacement, compare 03L906022HE first and foremost. The number 03L906022GA also appears on other ECUs, so on its own it does not determine compatibility.
How to tell the ECU may be faulty
- the engine will not fire and the diagnostic tool cannot see the engine control unit,
- the glow plug light flashes while driving,
- the car suddenly loses power and goes into limp mode,
- the unit has been flooded with water or suffered a voltage surge.
Rule out a wiring or power supply fault first – check the fuses and the ECU power supply relay.
Locked or unlocked – which to choose?
If your workshop has ECU programming equipment, the locked version is enough: it contains the donor car's data and immobiliser, and the technician will unlock and match it. If not, choose the unlocked version, which we prepare before the parcel goes out, usually within 1–2 working days.
Bear in mind that the availability of methods (PIN / CAR PASS, Virgin, IMMO OFF, auto programming, cloning) depends on the part number, software and immobiliser. For 03L906022HE, we will confirm it when you enquire, before you buy. See also: ECU preparation options.
Questions and answers
My ECU also has the number 03L906022GA, but a different main number. Will this one fit?
---
Not necessarily. The main number with its letters decides – send us a photo of the label and we will compare the two units.
Is 0281015235 the Bosch number of the same unit?
Yes. It is the manufacturer number, written on the label as 0 281 015 235.
What condition is the ECU in?
Used, fully working and in good condition. You will find the warranty period in the product specification table.
