Does the 03G906018CE ECU fit a 2005 Passat 2.0 TDI?

It does if your module's label shows VW number 03G906018CE and Siemens VDO number 5WP45610AC (written on the label as 5WP45610 AC). The unit comes from a 2005 Passat 2.0 TDI.

Go to full description

Engine Control Unit Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDI Siemens VDO 03G906018CE 5WP45610AC

Not every Passat 2.0 TDI has a Bosch ECU – this 2005 unit was made by Siemens VDO. The number 5WP45610AC belongs to the Siemens VDO / Continental numbering system, and VW number 03G906018CE denotes an engine control unit. The module controls fuel injection and boost, so if it fails the car is usually immobilised.

Numbers on the label

  • 03G906018CE – Volkswagen part number with suffix CE
  • 5WP45610AC – Siemens VDO number; written on the label as 5WP45610 AC

Note that on the label the AC suffix is separated by a space. The letters CE in the VW number, on the other hand, indicate the software or hardware version – a 03G906018 module with a different suffix may differ.

Symptoms that may indicate a fault

  • the 2.0 TDI engine will not start although the starter motor works,
  • limp mode with no damage to the injectors or sensors,
  • no communication with the ECU on the diagnostic tool,
  • a fault after a voltage spike, water ingress or failed programming.

First check the power supply, earths and the condition of the connector – this rules out the simplest causes.

Locked or unlocked ECU

Choose locked if your workshop will unlock, program and adapt the module itself – it contains the data and immobiliser from the previous Passat. Choose unlocked if you would like us to prepare it before dispatch; this usually takes 1–2 working days.

The possible methods are PIN / CAR PASS, Virgin, IMMO OFF, auto programming and clone, but their availability depends on the part number, software and immobiliser. Please ask before you buy. Description: engine control unit options.

Questions and answers

Will a Siemens VDO ECU replace the Bosch module in my Passat?
Do not assume so. Compare VW number 03G906018CE with your label – that is what decides the match.
Why does the label say 5WP45610 AC with a space?
It is the same number as 5WP45610AC, just written differently on the label.
What condition is this ECU in?
It is a used, fully working part in good condition. You will find the warranty period in the product features table.

Send a photo of the label to contact@auto24parts.com – we will check whether this ECU fits.

  • How to Check the Operation of a Transmission Control Module - Symptoms

A faulty transmission control module (TCM) most often causes limp mode with the gearbox stuck in one gear, harsh jolts when you select D or R, erratic gear changes, flashing PRND letters and a gearbox or engine warning light. However, the same symptoms are often caused by a low gearbox oil level, a weak battery, a poor earth or a faulty sensor. To test a transmission control module, start by checking the battery and reading the fault codes with a diagnostic tool that can talk to the gearbox control unit, then check the power supply, the connector, the oil and the live data. Below we explain the symptoms, the diagnostic steps and what the most common fault codes mean.
