The automatic transmission control unit (often designated as TCU or TCM) is a crucial electronic component responsible for smooth and trouble-free gear shifting. Its failure, most often caused by overheating, short circuits, or water damage, results in jerking, an inability to shift gears, or the vehicle entering limp mode. Purchasing a new module at an authorized dealership is a massive expense, which is why replacing it with a fully functional, used original is the most reasonable solution.

Important: Depending on the ECU type and vehicle model, not all of the options listed below may be available.
To select the correct option for your vehicle and ECU, please contact us before purchasing:

1. Locked
This option is intended for professional workshops with the required specialist equipment and technical knowledge.
The ECU has been removed from a vehicle intended for recycling and still contains the immobilizer data and other information from the previous vehicle. Before it can be used in another car, it must be unlocked and then programmed using specialist automotive diagnostic equipment.
2. Unlocked
Several preparation methods may be available. The possible options depend on the ECU type, vehicle model and immobilizer system. Please contact us before purchasing, as some preparation methods are not available for every ECU.
Our electronics specialists can prepare the ECU in one of the following ways:
a) ECU with PIN code (Car Pass)
The PIN code is supplied, but programming with a suitable diagnostic tool is still required. After installing the ECU, it must be reset using the supplied PIN code and then programmed to the vehicle’s immobilizer system.
b) VIRGIN ECU
The data from the previous vehicle is removed and the ECU is restored to a clean, factory-like state. After installation, it must be programmed to the vehicle using a compatible specialist diagnostic tool. Unless another preparation method is specified in the product description, this is the standard unlocking option for most of our ECUs.
c) Plug & Play – IMMO OFF
The immobilizer function is disabled in the ECU. After installation, the engine can start without additional immobilizer programming. Please note that the vehicle will no longer have an active immobilizer function, and an immobilizer warning light or fault code may remain, depending on the vehicle model.
d) Plug & Play – Automatic Programming
After installation, the ECU automatically learns and saves the required vehicle data. No additional programming is normally required.
e) Plug & Play – 1:1 Clone
The data from your original ECU is copied to another fully functional ECU. The cloned unit is then ready for installation without additional programming.
You must send us your original ECU so that we can transfer its data to the replacement unit.
The original ECU must have working communication with the vehicle, a diagnostic tool or our programming equipment. If the required data cannot be read, a complete 1:1 clone may not be possible.
3. Complete Plug & Play Set
A complete matched set containing the ECU, immobilizer components and all other parts required to start the vehicle without additional programming. All components supplied in the set must be installed in the vehicle.
Important:
Dispatch time depends on the selected option. If an unlocked or specially prepared version is ordered, the preparation service usually requires an additional 1–2 business days.

Does DDE control unit 0281033879 fit your diesel BMW?
This is a used, working Bosch DDE engine control unit, Bosch number 0281033879 (0 281 033 879), BMW number 8596358, for BMW cars with a diesel engine. Before buying, compare both numbers with the label on the unit in your car and choose the variant: locked or unlocked.
BMW diesel engine management - Bosch DDE electronics
Bosch DDE 0281033879 is an electronic diesel engine control unit used in the relevant BMW configurations. It manages the engine on the basis of sensor information and the parameters stored in its software.
The DDE system (Digital Diesel Electronics) controls fuel injection, monitors selected engine parameters and communicates with the other electronic systems of the vehicle.
BMW number 8596358 and Bosch 0281033879 - identifying the ECU correctly
The label of this unit carries two important markings: 0 281 033 879, the Bosch manufacturer number, and 8 596 358, the short BMW part number.
The Bosch number is also written without spaces as 0281033879. Both forms can be used when searching for the right unit.
BMW uses different versions of DDE units. A similar housing or identical connectors do not automatically mean hardware and software compatibility.
Before ordering, we recommend comparing all the numbers of your original ECU.
Starting problems and diagnostic communication
Faults in the engine management can show up as difficult starting, the engine cutting out, disturbed injection or no communication with the diagnostic tester.
Similar symptoms can, however, also be caused by faulty sensors, wiring, the fuel system or an incorrect power supply to the unit.
Before replacing the module, run diagnostics, check the supply voltages and earth wires and read the stored fault codes.
Replacing the DDE unit - immobiliser synchronisation
When fitting a used BMW DDE unit, it may be necessary to match the immobiliser data, synchronise it with the vehicle electronics or transfer data from the original unit.
The work required depends on the immobiliser system version, the car configuration and how the replacement ECU has been prepared.
Before buying, agree with your workshop whether the unit can be programmed accordingly.
ECU variant - locked or unlocked
You can order this unit in a locked or unlocked variant. We explain the differences between the variants on the page ECU preparation options. Before buying, send us the numbers from the label and we will confirm which variant is available for this number.
