The automatic transmission control unit (often designated as TCU or TCM) is a crucial electronic component responsible for smooth and trouble-free gear shifting. Its failure, most often caused by overheating, short circuits, or water damage, results in jerking, an inability to shift gears, or the vehicle entering limp mode. Purchasing a new module at an authorized dealership is a massive expense, which is why replacing it with a fully functional, used original is the most reasonable solution.

Important: Depending on the ECU type and vehicle model, not all of the options listed below may be available.
To select the correct option for your vehicle and ECU, please contact us before purchasing:

1. Locked
This option is intended for professional workshops with the required specialist equipment and technical knowledge.
The ECU has been removed from a vehicle intended for recycling and still contains the immobilizer data and other information from the previous vehicle. Before it can be used in another car, it must be unlocked and then programmed using specialist automotive diagnostic equipment.
2. Unlocked
Several preparation methods may be available. The possible options depend on the ECU type, vehicle model and immobilizer system. Please contact us before purchasing, as some preparation methods are not available for every ECU.
Our electronics specialists can prepare the ECU in one of the following ways:
a) ECU with PIN code (Car Pass)
The PIN code is supplied, but programming with a suitable diagnostic tool is still required. After installing the ECU, it must be reset using the supplied PIN code and then programmed to the vehicle’s immobilizer system.
b) VIRGIN ECU
The data from the previous vehicle is removed and the ECU is restored to a clean, factory-like state. After installation, it must be programmed to the vehicle using a compatible specialist diagnostic tool. Unless another preparation method is specified in the product description, this is the standard unlocking option for most of our ECUs.
c) Plug & Play – IMMO OFF
The immobilizer function is disabled in the ECU. After installation, the engine can start without additional immobilizer programming. Please note that the vehicle will no longer have an active immobilizer function, and an immobilizer warning light or fault code may remain, depending on the vehicle model.
d) Plug & Play – Automatic Programming
After installation, the ECU automatically learns and saves the required vehicle data. No additional programming is normally required.
e) Plug & Play – 1:1 Clone
The data from your original ECU is copied to another fully functional ECU. The cloned unit is then ready for installation without additional programming.
You must send us your original ECU so that we can transfer its data to the replacement unit.
The original ECU must have working communication with the vehicle, a diagnostic tool or our programming equipment. If the required data cannot be read, a complete 1:1 clone may not be possible.
3. Complete Plug & Play Set
A complete matched set containing the ECU, immobilizer components and all other parts required to start the vehicle without additional programming. All components supplied in the set must be installed in the vehicle.
Important:
Dispatch time depends on the selected option. If an unlocked or specially prepared version is ordered, the preparation service usually requires an additional 1–2 business days.

Does the 03G906021DN ECU fit your Octavia 1.9 TDI?
It does if your car has a unit with the same VW number – 03G906021DN – and the Bosch number 0281013289. This is a used, fully working engine control unit for the Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI, available locked or unlocked.
Engine Control Unit Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI Bosch 03G906021DN 0281013289
The 03G906021DN engine control unit is the electronic ‘brain’ of the 1.9 TDI diesel engine in the Skoda Octavia. It reads sensor signals, calculates fuel injection quantity and timing, and controls boost pressure. The unit was made by Bosch – the casing carries the number 0 281 013 289, typical of the brand's diesel engine control units.
Numbers to compare
- 03G906021DN – VW/Skoda part number used to match the ECU,
- 0281013289 – Bosch number, shown on the label as 0 281 013 289,
- 1039S16788 – Bosch software number.
Compare the VW number on your unit's label, including the letters at the end. The DN suffix identifies the software and hardware version – a 03G906021 ECU with a different letter may not work with your engine.
When might the ECU be faulty?
- the engine cranks on the starter but will not fire,
- the diagnostic tool cannot connect to the unit,
- the car goes into limp mode and loses power for no obvious reason,
- the fault appeared after the ECU got wet or after a voltage surge in the electrical system.
Check the fuses, power supply and ECU earths first – they, rather than the unit itself, are often the cause of the problem.
Choose an option: locked or unlocked
The locked version reaches you with the data and immobiliser of the car it came from. It is a good choice for a workshop that will unlock the ECU, program it and match it to the Octavia itself. The unlocked version is prepared before dispatch – this usually takes 1–2 working days.
The preparation method (PIN / CAR PASS, Virgin, IMMO OFF, auto programming, cloning) depends on the part number, software and immobiliser, so not every method is possible with every unit. Before you order, ask what can be done for 03G906021DN. We describe the details on the ECU preparation options page.
Questions and answers
