ABS Pump Lancia

Ensure perfect braking and stability on the road. Reliable ABS controllers and units with a quality guarantee.

Lancia is a brand that has always combined innovative technological solutions with unique Italian design. Regardless of whether you drive a city Lancia Ypsilon, a stylish Delta, or a luxury Thema, the foundation of your safety is a fully functional braking system. Its most important electronic-hydraulic element is the ABS unit. In modern Lancia models, this module not only prevents wheel lock during braking, but also controls the stability control system (ESP/VDC) and the hill start assist system (Hill Holder).

In this category you will find a wide selection of original, tested ABS pumps from dismantled vehicles. This is the safest and most cost-effective alternative to extremely expensive new parts from authorized service centers and to uncertain regeneration attempts.

Why do ABS pumps in Lancia fail?

In vehicles from the FIAT/Lancia Group, systems from renowned manufacturers such as Bosch or TRW are most commonly used. Despite their high quality, many years of operation in difficult conditions under the hood (vibrations, moisture, extreme temperatures) take their toll. The most common causes of failure are:

  • Cracks in solder joints on the main board: Temperature changes and vibrations cause microscopic cracks (so-called cold solder joints) inside the electronic pump controller.

  • Moisture in the connector: Water running down from the cowl area (a common problem in older models such as Lancia Lybra or Musa) can get into the main connector, causing short circuits and corrosion of the pins.

  • Failure of the internal pressure sensor: Failure of this sensor, integrated with the hydraulic block (common in Bosch 8.0 ESP systems), immediately disables the stability control systems.

Typical symptoms of ABS / ESP controller damage

Italian cars inform very precisely about electronic problems. The following symptoms indicate ABS pump failure:

  1. A series of messages on the dashboard: Display of errors such as "ABS Unavailable", "ESP/VDC Failure" and a non-working "Hill Holder" system.

  2. Dropping speedometer needle: In many models, the vehicle speed signal is generated by the ABS controller. Its failure results in no speed indication on the dashboard.

  3. Continuous buzzing of the pump motor: As a result of a short circuit on the main board, the pump motor relay can get stuck, which causes it to run even after the key has been removed from the ignition (this may discharge the battery).

Why is it better to choose an original used part instead of repairing the old pump?

The decision to regenerate a damaged module is often a dead end. Cutting open the hermetically sealed, factory ABS controller housing means that it will never regain its original tightness again. After being glued back together with silicone, the module becomes very susceptible to moisture ingress again.

By purchasing a working used pump from us, you receive a factory-assembled and non-opened part. After proper installation and possible PROXI alignment coding (using a diagnostic computer), your Lancia regains full functionality.

Technological relationship – discover our full offer

Lancia, being part of the powerful FCA Group (now Stellantis), shares many components and technological solutions with other brands. Flagship models such as the Lancia Thema or the large Lancia Voyager are technological twins of American highway cruisers. For this reason, our store also offers tested ABS pumps for Chrysler. In turn, smaller and more urban models draw heavily from their Italian heritage, which is why in our catalog you will find related, excellent quality ABS pumps for Alfa Romeo.

As professionals in automotive electronics, we supply braking systems for vehicles from all over the world. If there are also Japanese cars parked in your garage, we provide a wide selection of long-lasting components, such as ABS pumps for Toyota. We also have advanced modules for vehicles equipped with iconic 4x4 drivetrains, namely ABS pumps for Subaru. We guarantee that every unit in our offer is a certain and safe choice.

How to choose the correct pump for your Lancia?

For the new unit to communicate correctly with the engine and body computer (Body Computer), it must have exactly the same software as the damaged part. Before purchase, write down the numbers from your old pump:

  • Part manufacturer number (e.g. Bosch): Usually located on the black controller housing and starts with digits 0 265 ... ...

  • Original Lancia/Fiat number (OE): Often stuck on the motor or stamped on the housing, it starts with a sequence of digits such as 518..., 467... or 517...

Choose wisely and restore safety and full travel comfort to your Lancia.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions: ABS pump in Lancia cars

1. I see the message "ABS/ESP Unavailable" and "Hill Holder Failure". Is this definitely a pump failure? In cars from the Fiat/Lancia group, the stability control systems (ESP/VDC) and hill start assist (Hill Holder) are physically and programmatically integrated with the ABS pump controller. A fault in the pump electronics (or lack of communication with it) causes automatic, cascading deactivation of these systems for safety reasons. To be 100% sure, the car must be connected to a diagnostic computer (e.g. MultiEcuScan) and the fault codes must be read.

2. After installing a used ABS pump in a Lancia, do I have to code it? Yes, in most models (e.g. Lancia Delta, Ypsilon, Musa) this is necessary. The electronics in these cars are based on the CAN bus network. After connecting a “foreign” ABS controller, the onboard computer (Body Computer) will detect inconsistency in the network (this often shows up as a flashing odometer reading). It is necessary to perform the so-called PROXI alignment procedure (Proxy Alignment), and then carry out calibration of the steering angle sensor and the lateral acceleration sensor.

3. The ABS pump motor in my Lancia keeps buzzing even after turning off the car and locking the doors. What should I do? This is one of the most dangerous but also very typical electronic faults – a short circuit on the main board causes the relay powering the pump motor to “stick”. You must act immediately: disconnect the wide plug from the ABS controller or remove the main pump fuse from the fuse box (usually 30A/40A). If you do not do this, the battery will be completely discharged by morning, and the pump motor itself will burn out from overheating, which will force replacement of the entire hydraulic unit.

4. Lancia Delta is a technological twin of the Fiat Bravo. Can I install a pump from Fiat? Physically, a pump from Fiat Bravo, and even Alfa Romeo Giulietta, may look identical and fit the mounting brackets of your Lancia. However, the software stored in the black controller is precisely calibrated to the specific vehicle weight, braking force distribution and engine version. For the ESP system to work correctly and safely in critical situations, the numbers on the damaged pump (both the Bosch number and the OE number) must be 100% identical to the numbers on the purchased part.

5. I have a Lancia Thema / Voyager. Is the ABS system in these cars different from other Lancia models? Definitely yes! Lancia Thema (from 2011) and Lancia Voyager are cars that are technological equivalents of the American Chrysler 300C and Chrysler Town & Country. Their electronics are based on American protocols, and the ABS pumps come from a completely different production line. Part numbers in these models often have the Chrysler/Mopar format (e.g. they start with P04... or P68...). Their diagnostics and coding often require different equipment (e.g. Appcar DiagFCA scanner or WiTech).

6. Does a brake pressure sensor error (common in Lancia Delta) mean that the entire pump must be replaced? In newer ABS systems (most often Bosch 8.0 and 9.0 ESP), the brake fluid pressure sensor is permanently integrated with the aluminum hydraulic block inside the pump. It does not exist as a separate, screw-in replacement part. If the diagnostic computer indicates its irreversible damage (a circuit fault inside the module), the only and cheapest repair option is replacement of the entire complete used ABS unit.

7. Can I replace only the black controller (electronics) to avoid problems with bleeding? Yes, in many classic Lancia models (e.g. Lybra, Musa, older Ypsilon) it is possible to unscrew only the plastic controller from the aluminum valve block. This avoids the need to disconnect the brake fluid lines. The condition for success is that the fault concerns only the electronics (e.g. no communication, burned relay), and not the hydraulics (e.g. stuck solenoid valve), and that the numbers on both controllers are identical.

8. How do I bleed the ABS pump in a Lancia after complete replacement? Ordinary bleeding by pumping the brake pedal will not remove air from the closed solenoid valves inside the pump block. It is necessary to connect a computer with software (e.g. MultiEcuScan), enter the ABS module and start the service bleeding procedure. The program will instruct the mechanic when to press the pedal, and the electronics will control the appropriate valves itself, pushing the air into the lines.

9. Where in a Lancia can I find the ABS pump numbers? The numbers necessary to select the correct part can be found directly on the unit, usually near the firewall under the hood (in some models located quite deep below the brake pump). Pay attention to two strings of characters:

  • Lancia/Fiat OEM number: Stamped on the aluminum or sticker, format e.g. 518..., 517... or 467...

  • Part manufacturer number: Usually located on the black plastic part (e.g. for the Bosch system it starts with 0 265 ... ...).
