ABS Pump Toyota
Restore your car’s legendary Japanese reliability. Tested braking systems and VSC/TRC pumps. Toyota has for decades been a benchmark of durability and reliability, and models such as Corolla, Yaris, Avensis or Prius set records for longevity. However, even in such refined designs, components of the braking system are subject to natural wear. In vehicles of this brand, the ABS pump is a highly advanced module which, in addition to preventing wheel lock-up, also manages the VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) and TRC (Traction Control) systems. In hybrid models, the matter is even more complicated – the ECB (Electronically Controlled Brake) system combines the pump, controller and pressure accumulator into one extremely important circuit.
In this category you will find original, used ABS pumps, units and controllers for Toyota vehicles. This is a certain and safe solution that will allow you to avoid astronomical repair costs at an Authorized Service Station.
Specific characteristics and most common failures of braking systems in Toyota
Japanese engineers in many models (especially hybrids) used systems produced by ADVICS, Denso or Bosch. What problems do Toyota drivers encounter most often?
-
Loss of pressure in the brake accumulator (Hybrids): This is an absolute nightmare for owners of Prius, Auris Hybrid or RAV4 models. The pump (the so-called Brake Actuator) is unable to maintain the correct fluid pressure. Classic fault codes are C1391 (abnormal leak in the system) or C1256 (low accumulator pressure).
-
Wear of the pump motor brushes: In older conventional models (e.g. Yaris, Corolla), intensive operation in city traffic leads to natural seizure or wear of the electric motor powering the pump.
-
Failure of sensors inside the hydraulic block: This leads to deactivation of the stability control system (VSC) and traction control (TRC), which is indicated by the corresponding warning lights on the dashboard.
Typical symptoms of ABS/VSC module damage
Toyota immediately informs the driver about safety-related problems. Do not ignore these signs:
-
A “Christmas tree” on the dashboard: ABS, VSC, TRC OFF warning lights illuminating at the same time, and in hybrids often a large red warning triangle and the message "Check Hybrid System".
-
Continuous or very frequent “pumping”: After opening the door or switching on the ignition, a loud sound of the pump working can be heard from under the hood for several seconds (especially in hybrids). If the system cannot hold pressure, the motor will start operating almost continuously while driving.
-
No brake assistance: The pedal becomes hard and “wooden”, which drastically increases the braking distance – this is a sign of critical failure of the hydraulic unit.
Why is an original used part the optimal choice?
In the case of Toyota, repairing damaged units (especially ECB modules from hybrids) is extremely difficult, and often even impossible due to the lack of spare parts on the market. Cutting open and attempting to patch such precise and high-pressure systems carries a huge risk of losing brakes on the road. On the other hand, the price of a new pump at an authorized service center often exceeds 8-10 thousand PLN, which in the case of older cars is simply unprofitable.
By choosing an original dismantled pump, you receive a factory-sealed, non-disassembled component that has passed Toyota’s rigorous quality tests (or those of its subcontractors, such as ADVICS). You order it, install it, perform computer adaptation, and the car safely returns to the road.

If your family or company also has other cars from the East, check our reliable ABS pumps for Subaru, perfectly cooperating with permanent AWD drive. Do you prefer Italian design and a sporty character? We have a wide range of controllers, including ABS pumps for Alfa Romeo and luxury components such as ABS pumps for Lancia. We have also not forgotten about fans of large and comfortable cars from overseas – in our catalog you will find tested ABS pumps for Chrysler. Regardless of what you drive, we guarantee the quality and functionality of original parts.
Choose the correct pump for your Toyota
The variety of engine versions and equipment (e.g. the presence of active cruise control radar) means that there are countless controller variants in Toyota vehicles. When buying a used part, the numbers must be identical to those on your faulty pump.
Pay attention to the strings of characters placed on the controller housing or aluminum block:
-
Toyota OE numbers: Most often in a 5-digit format with a hyphen, e.g. 44510-47050, 89541-02060 or 44540-02250.
-
Manufacturer numbers (ADVICS / Bosch / Denso).
Prepare your car for hundreds of thousands of more kilometers of trouble-free driving by choosing original parts you can rely on.
FAQ – Frequently asked questions: ABS pump in Toyota
1. ABS, VSC and TRC OFF lights are on. Does this have to mean a pump failure? Not necessarily, but it is very likely. In Toyota (and Lexus) vehicles, engineers applied a safety principle: a fault of any component of the braking, drivetrain or engine system (this is often accompanied by the "Check Engine" light) causes automatic deactivation of the traction control (TRC) and stability control (VSC) systems. To make an accurate diagnosis, it is necessary to connect a diagnostic computer and read the fault codes.
2. My hybrid (Prius / Auris) often and loudly buzzes from the area of the brake pump. Is this a fault? Definitely yes – this is one of the most characteristic symptoms of the beginning of the end for the unit (the so-called Brake Actuator). In ECB (Electronically Controlled Brake) systems, the electric pump “builds up” pressure into a special brake fluid accumulator. If leaks occur inside the hydraulic block (fluid returns to the reservoir), the pressure drops too quickly. As a result, the pump has to engage every several seconds (even when stationary), which eventually leads to seizure of its motor.
3. What do fault codes C1391 or C1256 mean in Toyota? Can this be regenerated?
-
C1391: Abnormal leak of accumulator pressure in the brake system (Abnormal Leak of Accumulator Pressure).
-
C1256: Low accumulator pressure (Accumulator Low Pressure). These are critical faults of the hydraulic unit produced by ADVICS for Toyota. We strongly advise against attempts to regenerate such pumps. These are complicated high-pressure systems for which original spare parts are unavailable. After cutting them open and performing makeshift repair, the risk of total brake failure on the road is enormous. The only safe solution is installation of a tested, original used pump (from dismantling) or a new one from an authorized service center (which is extremely expensive).
4. The brake pedal in my Toyota has become “hard as a rock”. Why is that? This is a symptom of total failure of the brake pump power supply or lack of pressure in the ECB system. The electronics have cut off the damaged assistance circuit and switched to purely mechanical mode (the so-called emergency “Fail-Safe” mode). You can still brake the vehicle, but this requires pressing the pedal with enormous force. In such a situation, further driving is dangerous and the ABS/ECB unit should be diagnosed immediately.
5. Is coding (adaptation) necessary after replacing the ABS pump in Toyota? Yes. While in very old models simply connecting the part was sometimes enough, in modern cars (Yaris III, Auris, Avensis T27) and in all hybrids, coding is absolutely necessary. After replacing the pump, using an advanced diagnostic computer (preferably Toyota Techstream software), it is necessary to perform:
-
Linear Solenoid Valve Calibration.
-
Initialization of the longitudinal/lateral acceleration sensor and the steering angle sensor. Without these procedures, VSC/TRC errors will still remain on the dashboard, and the car may brake unevenly.
6. How do you bleed the brake system in a Toyota hybrid? Important: This cannot be done using the traditional “pump and hold” method known from older cars! ECB systems have closed solenoid valves. To push fluid through the hydraulic unit and calipers, it is necessary to connect a computer with Techstream software, start the "Brake Bleeding" procedure and strictly follow the instructions on the screen. The computer will itself activate the pump and open the appropriate valves in the block. Attempting to do this manually may permanently trap air in the system.
7. Can I install an ABS pump from a diesel Toyota into a Toyota with a petrol engine? Generally no. Although the pumps may look identical from the outside (dimensions, connectors), the software embedded in their electronic controllers is different. It takes into account a different engine weight, a different load distribution on the axles and torque characteristics. For the ABS and VSC systems to work correctly, the OE numbers on the damaged pump must be 100% identical to the numbers on the pump being purchased.
8. Where can I find the numbers needed to select the ABS pump in Toyota? Toyota has a specific numbering system. On one component you will often find two important OE numbers (starting with the digits 4, 8 or 9):
-
Hydraulic block / unit number: E.g.
44510-47050(stamped on the aluminum or on the motor label). -
Electronic ECU controller number: E.g.
89541-47060(on the black plastic). Sometimes there is also a number of the subcontractor manufacturer (e.g. ADVICS, Bosch or Aisin). When searching for a replacement part, it is best to use the number from the ECU controller (starting with89...) or the main assembly number.
