Why Smart OEM numbers beginning with A... matter

Many Smart components use Mercedes / Smart-style OEM references beginning with A.

• A1351508179,
• A1329000900.

These should be checked in full because the final digits may identify a different ECU version.

Common symptoms of a faulty Smart ECU

Possible symptoms of an engine control unit problem may include:

• engine does not start,
• intermittent starting problems,
• loss of communication with the ECU,
• limp mode,
• reduced engine power,
• irregular engine operation,
• check engine warning light,
• internal ECU fault codes,
• missing control of specific engine functions.

These symptoms do not automatically confirm an internal ECU fault.

No communication with the Smart ECU

• vehicle battery voltage.

A wiring or power-supply fault can produce the same symptom as a damaged ECU.
